An annual study released today by Javelin Strategy & Research finds that U.S. online consumers are shopping on the web more often.
In a survey of 2,300 consumers conducted in August, 34% of respondents said they had made an online purchase within the prior seven days, compared to 30% who said so in the 2010 survey and 27% in 2009.
This year’s survey also finds that 77% of consumers said they made a purchase online within the prior 90 days, compared with 76% who said the same last year and 68% in 2009.
In the study, the “2011 Online Retail Payments Scorecard: New Options to Maximize Online Shopping Revenue,” Javelin also noted online payment figures from an earlier study that project that web sales will steadily increase its share of total retail sales over the next several years, increasing from $285 billion or 7.0% of sales this year to $443 billion or 9.2% of sales by 2015.
