The search giant today rolled out new ways for marketers to understand the in-store impact of their ads.
Consumers in New York City and the San Francisco area now can receive Google Offers.
Google Inc. this week expanded its daily deal discount service with the launch of Google Offers in New York City and the San Francisco area. The service, already in Portland, OR, remains in beta testing, Google says. It enables consumers to receive e-mailed discounts on food, entertainment and retail goods and represents Google’s version of Groupon, which Google tried unsuccessfully to buy late last year.
Initial offers included $5 for $10 worth of hotdogs, shakes and burgers at New York’s Crif Dogs, and $5 for $10 worth of Mexican food at Pancho Villa Taqueria in San Francisco. Consumers can sign up at google.com/offers.
Google also makes the offers available to consumers with Android mobile devices that have the Google Shopper 2.0 app.
The search engine giant plans to launch Google Offers in Austin, Boston, Denver, Seattle and Washington, D.C., writes Eric Rosenblum, product management director, Google Offers, in a blog posting. He gave no indication about when consumers in those cities would start receiving offers.
Earlier this year, Google rival Bing, the search engine operated by Microsoft Corp., began to enable consumers using computers or smartphones to find the best daily deals near shoppers’ locations, or for specific businesses.
