Michael Kelly, a Dish Network veteran, takes over at the retailer Dish bought last month.
Blockbuster, which last month gained a new owner, now has a new leader.
Michael Kelly today was named president of Blockbuster LLC, a subsidiary of Dish Network Corp. The satellite TV provider in April won an auction to acquire the bankrupt Blockbuster, No. 34 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
Kelly was executive vice president of Dish Network's commercial services division, and also led the company’s direct sales and media sales organizations. Kelly also worked as Dish Network’s manager of field service, customer care operations and strategic initiatives. In 2009, Dish Network bought his company, Kelly Broadcasting Systems, which distributed international radio and TV programming.
"Michael was the visionary behind our acquisition of Blockbuster," says Charlie Ergen, chairman and CEO of Dish Network. "His leadership will be key to returning Blockbuster to profitability and improving the experience we offer to consumers across the U.S. and globally."
Dish Network said it paid $320.6 million for Blockbuster.
