First quarter web sales accelerate for AutoZone

Web sales in the first quarter of fiscal 2011 grew by 11.6%.

Web sales moved higher in the new fiscal year for multichannel auto parts and accessories retailer AutoZone Inc.

For the first quarter of fiscal 2011 ended Nov. 20, AutoZone reported:

  • Web sales, which includes all sales from AutoZone.com and AllData.com, which sells diagnostic and related repair work software, grew year over year 11.6% to $36.7 million from $32.9 million.
  • Total sales increased 13.3% to $1.79 billion from $1.58 billion.
  • Comparable-store sales increased 9.5%.
  • Net income increased 20% to $172 million from $143.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2010.

“This marks the eighth consecutive quarter of 20% plus growth in earnings per share and our 17th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth,” says CEO Bill Rhodes.

Internet Retailer calculates the web accounted for 2.1% in the first quarter, the same as in the prior year. AutoZone is No. 109 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
