Barneys New York Inc. has hired Daniella Vitale as chief merchant and executive vice president. She will oversee women's and operations. Her first day is Wednesday.

She will supervise merchandising, business development and strategy in those areas and report to CEO Mark Lee. Vitale worked for more than 10 years with Gucci, most recently as president of the Americas.  Previously she was vice president of wholesale at Giorgio Armani and merchandise manager at Salvatore Ferragamo.

Lee, a former Gucci global president and CEO, worked at Gucci with Vitale.

“Daniella is an outstanding leader and merchant and brings with her a lucrative 20-year career in the luxury retail space,” Lee says. “She will bring our women's and total web business to even greater prominence.”

Barneys also said this week that Judy Collinson, executive vice president, women's merchandising, and Julie Gilhart, senior vice president/women's fashion director, have left the retailer to pursue other opportunities.  Vitale has started a search for a new women's fashion director.

Barneys is No. 243 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
