Twitter’s algorithm changes likely mean fewer consumers will see a brand’s tweets.
Apple is allowing Ping users to link their accounts to the microblogging site.
Apple, which launched Ping in August, says the network has more than 1 million users.
When an iTunes user clicks on the site’s Ping tab, he is presented with a Connect to Twitter button. After he clicks the button and signs into his Twitter account, whenever he Posts, Likes, Reviews or tells his friends why he purchased a song or album on Ping, the activity is tweeted to his Twitter followers. Each of those tweets, or Twitter messages, includes a playable song preview, as well as a link to purchase and download music from iTunes.
When one of his Twitter followers clicks on a tweet sent via Ping or which includes an iTunes link, he will see the song or album in Twitter’s details pane. The consumer can then listen to the song preview from iTunes.
Those iTunes song previews are available on Twitter in the 23 countries where Apple’s iTunes Store sells music. Apple is No. 4 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
