Social networking offers many ways to connect with shoppers.
Retailers want to be where their customer are online, and the ballooning popularity of social media gives shoppers even more places to congregate on the web. How can online merchants approach participation in Facebook, Twitter, blogs and the multitude of sharing options in a way that not only enhances their relationship with customers but produces results that justify their investment? Justin Perdue, web manager for Beau Ties Ltd., will speak about that subject during the Internet Retailer Web Design & Usability Conference 2011 in a session entitled “What it takes to make social media initiatives succeed” on Feb. 16 from 9:45 – 10:15 a.m.

The neckwear manufacturer and retailer is involved in a number of social initiatives, and this session will detail what it took to get going in the online social realm. Perdue will share what the company tried and tested, why it started where it started, what worked and didn't work, what managers have learned about social media programs, how they've refined their approach, what they're doing now, what they've gotten out of it and what's next.
Internet Retailer’s editors asked Perdue to speak because his willingness to experiment with the latest trends in web marketing has transformed Beau Ties Ltd. from a catalog-driven direct marketer into a business whose online channel now generates over half its revenue. He has been in web marketing for more than a decade and as web manager for Beau Ties, he oversees every aspect of online marketing for the company, managing everything from social media to online marketing to back-end site development.
