Neal Sample will oversee the online marketplace’s platform development strategies.
EBay Inc. has hired Neal Sample as vice president of architecture for eBay Marketplaces.
In his new job, Sample will guide the online marketplace’s platform architecture strategy, manage the design and delivery of eBay’s platform efforts and work to further integrate eBay’s various components—such as eBay mobile, Open eBay developer program, cloud computing and social commerce—into the eBay.com infrastructure.
Sample previously worked at Yahoo Inc., where he held various roles, most recently vice president of Yahoo’s open, social and participation platforms.
“Neal’s strategic thinking and ability to drive continued advances across eBay’s immense platform and properties will be integral as we transform our technology foundation and take shopping and selling on eBay to exciting new levels with next-generation systems and technologies,” says Mark Carges, eBay senior vice president and chief technology officer.
In addition to strengthening the company’s position as a leading online marketplace, eBay says Sample will help build and deploy systems and tools designed to spur growth.
“The scale of the eBay platform and the power of the team I’m joining combine into an incredible opportunity to progress exciting ideas into sophisticated solutions that ultimately benefit the world’s largest concentration of active shopping and selling enthusiasts,” he says.
