Build.com picks a home retailing veteran to head up business development

Build.com has named the former CEO of a competing online retail site as its newest executive vice president.

Build.com, No. 97 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, has named David Berman as the executive vice president in charge of sourcing, vendor brand development and business development. He will help guide business strategy for Build.com, which operates multiple niche home improvement sites such as LightingDirect.com and FaucetDirect.com.

Prior to joining Build.com, which generated 2009 web sales of $166.3 million, Berman was the co-founder and CEO of Decorative Product Source, another home furnishings online retailer. Berman also was founder and CEO of Ral Supply Co., a wholesale distribution company.
