A Profitero study showed Target’s online prices were 25% more expensive than Wal-Mart’s, which were just slightly more expensive than prices on Amazon.
The sites include PrankPlace.com, GagWorks.com and FunIdeas.com.
Niche retail web site operator iStores Inc. has bought the PrankPlace family of e-commerce sites from Outrageous Ventures Inc. Terms were not disclosed.
The sites include PrankPlace.com, GagWorks.com, DrinkingStuff.com and FunIdeas.com. The acquired sites offer such products as joke shop novelties, gag gifts, pranks, costumes, novelty apparel and party supplies.
IStores, which also operates sites such Paintball-Online.com and OurDesigns.com, plans to build on the PrankPlace’s market niches. To do so, iStores will move the marketing and fulfillment functions of PrankPlace.com from Hartford, CT, to iStores’ headquarters in Vancouver, WA.
“PrankPlace is a dominant online retailer in a variety of niche markets,” says Adam Stites, iStores president. “We’re looking forward to build on this strong base by aggressively expanding the marketing as well as adding additional sites within the novelty genre.”
Outrageous Ventures sold the PrankPlace.com operations so it could focus on selling gifts and related items through its Big Mouth Toys division, iStores says. Outrageous Ventures will sell wholesale through Big Mouth, including products that iStores will sell on PrankPlace.com.
PrankPlace.com launched in 2001. IStores operates such web sites as Paintball-Online.com and OurDesigns.com. Tully & Holland served as the investment banking advisor for the deal.
