The office supplies retailer say it sacrificed some sales to improve online profitability. It also redesigned its business-facing e-commerce site, StaplesAdvantage.com.
The retailer plans to move its sales and customer service tasks from its corporate headquarters.
Niche store web retailer Hayneedle Inc. plans to open a 28,000-square-foot customer care center in Omaha, NE. The retailer, which operates 220 online stores, will use the facility for sales operations and customer service.
Hayneedle, No. 69 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, expects to open the center June 28. The center will employ 100 workers, with that number swelling to at least 250 full-time and seasonal workers during peak shopping periods. The tasks that will be assigned to the center are now handled at Hayneedle’s corporate office, also located in the Omaha area.
"Hayneedle.com has experienced tremendous growth over the past 12 months and our new 100% Omaha-based Customer Care Center will ensure we remain focused on delivering an exceptional experience with our brand," says Tammy Van Donk, Hayneedle’s customer care center director.
Hayneedle sells such products as furniture, home accessories, baby and kids’ items and sports equipment. Annual sales in 2009 stood at $241.5 million, up from $201 million in 2008, according to an Internet Retailer estimate. Earlier this year, the retailer announced it was opening a warehouse in Ohio that would increase the company’s distribution capacity by 50%.
