More consumers go mobile for the holidays, and more can find mobile coupons to choose

Nearly one in five shoppers expected to use their mobile phones as a holiday shopping tools, a survey suggests

Nearly one in five consumers expected to use their mobile phones to assist them with holiday shopping, according to a survey of 10,878 U.S. consumers by research and consulting firm Deloitte LLC.

55% of those consumers planned to find store locations, 45% research prices, 40% find product information, 32% get discounts and coupons, and 31% read reviews. And one in four shoppers expected to make a purchase this holiday season with a mobile phone.

In other mobile commerce news, mobile coupon site expanded its coverage area from New York City to the entire country just in time for the holidays. The web site offers more than 60,000 mobile coupons that shoppers can receive via text message.

“Savvy consumers will check before they head out to eat, drink or shop in their neighborhood,” says Landy Ung, CEO and co-founder of “There’s a high chance that we can help shoppers get more for their money and let them know about a great nearby deal that they wouldn’t otherwise know about. aggregates thousands of mobile coupons and local deals throughout the country.”

When a shopper visits, the map on the home page automatically populates the eight most popular deals based on his Internet protocol address. This ensures that anyone who visits the site will see the deals most relevant to them. Those deals change dynamically as the user moves the map around to different locations, zooms in on a specific street, or narrows down the deals by sub-categories, such as restaurants, entertainment, services and shopping.

Since launching in 2007, has offered a self-service mobile coupon platform for small businesses in New York City. The platform is now available nationwide, and to kick things off, the company is offering an opportunity for any business to try the service free for 100 days. Businesses can sign up at and use the promo code “MobileCoupons” at checkout to receive a credit of $888.
