Shoe retailer DSW names Michael McDonald as president and CEO

Michael McDonald, former chairman and CEO of the Shopko Stores retail chain, will head up multichannel footwear retailer DSW. He succeeds Jay Schottenstein, who remains as chairman.

 

Michael McDonald, former chairman and CEO of the Shopko Stores retail chain, has been named president and CEO of multichannel footwear retailer DSW. He succeeds as the top executive Jay Schottenstein, who remains as chairman.

McDonald joins DSW with more than 30 years of retailing experience. Prior to Shopko, he worked as an executive at retailers including Saks Inc., Carson Pirie Scott, Marshall Field’s (now Macy’s Inc.) and Dayton Hudson Department Stores.

DSW hired McDonald following a search by executive recruiters Berglass & Associates.

As of March 25, 2009, DSW operated 300 stores in 37 states and the e-commerce site DSW.com. The company also supplies footwear to 367 leased locations in the U.S.
