In an effort to boost back-to-school shopping business, Walmart.com is offering free site-to-store shipping on items for college students’ dorms and apartments.

The retailer, No. 14 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, will ship such popular college items as selected bedding sets, iPod shuffles, LCD HDTVs, lamps and Lexmark printers, ordered on Walmart.com to its stores. Students can then pick up the items at the store closest to their college campus.

Additionally, students who purchase the Flip Video Mino digital camcorder for $149 will receive a $10 Walmart.com gift card and an accessory of their choice to go with the camcorder.

Walmart.com offered a similar promotion to ramp up online sales this Mother’s Day, offering the Nintendo Wii Fit video exercise program and touting it as the ideal gift. Shoppers who pre-ordered or pre-paid for the game received a $10 Walmart.com gift card.
