Web designers looking to add multi-lingual capability to site search now have that capability with Google Inc.’s Google Custom Search platform, the search company says.
“The Custom Search platform supports 40 languages in close to 80 countries,” Google software engineer Matt Wytock says on Google’s Custom Search blog. He adds that, until this month, the Custom Search administration console was only available in English.
Web site operators can use Google Custom Search to build tailored search experiences on company web sites and blogs, and they can also use the Custom Search application programming interface to build search into individual web applications, Wytock says. “Custom Search engines can be built in minutes and are easy to customize and manage. You can also control the appearance of the search results to match the look and feel of your web site.”
Google makes Custom Search available as a free, ad-supported platform. A separate Custom Search Business Edition provides additional customization of search results and the inclusion of ads is optional.
