The new payment option from Samsung gives retailers another way to connect with customers.

Shoppers at the approximately 50 retail web sites that use the mPoria GoMobile mobile commerce platform can now make m-commerce purchases through PayPal, a third-party payment service.
With PayPal’s mobile payment technology integrated within the mPoria GoMobile platform, shoppers using their cell phones to shop at sites like Buy.com and Moosejaw.com will see a PayPal icon during the checkout process. Clicking that icon takes a shopper to PayPal’s site to conduct the purchase; the shopper then automatically returns to the retail site to get a order confirmation, says Dan Wright, CEO and co-founder of mPoria Inc.
“Any phone with mobile web capability can access an mPoria-powered site,” Wright says, adding that there are more than 236 million cell phones in use in the U.S. Although not all these phones necessarily can access the web, most if not all new cell phones are web-enabled, he adds.
Wright says he figures that PayPal, a unit of eBay Inc., will help to increase the comfort level of consumers as they discover new, unfamiliar retail sites through m-commerce. Because PayPal actually pays the merchant after accepting payment from the shopper, it frees the shopper from having to take on the risk of conducting a payment transaction directly with an unknown merchant. PayPal, which does not reveal a shopper`s payment account information to the merchant, assists buyers when they need to dispute cases such as when purchased goods are not delivered.
And more merchants are offering an m-commerce option. “We get new merchants on GoMobile every day,” Wright says.
The GoMobile platform is designed so that it automatically renders web pages on a cell phone screen in a way that accommodates the screen’s size and the cell phone’s Internet access speed, Wright says. Other retailers using mPoria GoMobile include GameStop, TicketsNow and Cutter & Buck.
