The comparison shopping market is getting more competitive. Vendio Services Inc., which provides online sales management software to small retailers, today is rolling out a new comparison shopping product called Dealio.
The different spin on Dealio is that it does not require a shopper to go to a web site to compare prices, as do other online comparison shopping services. Rather, Dealio is an application that resides in a consumer’s browser bar and automatically comes to life when the consumer is viewing products at retail web sites. The icon for Dealio alerts the consumer that it has some shopping information in it, then the consumer clicks on it and Dealio opens a window and displays the contents.
Dealio displays the results by best price, including tax and shipping if the customer enters a ZIP Code. “It takes a lot of the time out of comparison shopping,” says Rodrigo Sales, CEO of Vendio.
Dealio expects eventually to sell the top two spots in the results listing to sponsors, with the sponsorships clearly labeled, Sales says. Listings will be free to all merchants and the application will be free for consumers. Sales says Dealio expects to make its money by selling sponsored listings.
The Dealio client will be programmed to recognize the main product on each product page so it does not inadvertently present comparison shopping information for cross-sells, upsells or other secondary merchandise on a product page, Sales says.
