Staples’ 2004 web sales rise 25% over 2003

Global e-commerce sales at office supplies retailer Staples grew more than twice as fast as total sales last year. 2004 web sales rose 25% year-over-year to $3 billion, while total sales rose 11%.

Global e-commerce sales at office supplies retailer Staples Inc. grew more than twice as fast as total sales last year. 2004 web sales rose 25% year-over-year to $3 billion, while total sales rose 11% and comp store sales rose 4%.

E-commerce sales also rose as a percentage of total sales. 2004 e-commerce sales accounted for 20.8% of total sales of $14.4 billion; 2003 e-commerce sales accounted for 18.5% of total sales of $12.97 billion.

Staples said it expects full-year 2005 total revenue to come in at a low double-digit percentage increase over 2004.
