Muze launches Similar Cinema as video search service

Muze, the provider of online content services for retailers of music, books and videos, today launched Similar Cinema as an information service that helps online cross-selling and up-selling of DVDs and VHS videos. Fees start at $1,000 per month.

Muze Inc., the provider of online content services for retailers of music, books and videos, today launched Similar Cinema as an information service that helps online cross-selling and up-selling of DVDs and VHS videos.

The Similar Cinema service lets shoppers on retail web sites search for information on 48,000 DVD titles and 153,000 VHS videos. Search results provide descriptions of titles as well as recommendations of up to 20 related titles, says Michael Lupetin, director of category management for Similar Cinema.

Retailers download Similar Cinema content from the web, then build from links from the content to video providers to support e-commerce sales of either physical or digital videos, Lupetin says.

"With DVD penetration exceeding 70 percent of U.S. households, and DVD sales predicted to reach the $16 billion mark by the end of 2004, Muze recognizes the market demand for new and innovative ways to present consumers with purchasing options," said Paul Zullo, founder and CEO of Muze.

Muze serves more than 150 retailers of various sizes, including Tower Records, Best Buy Co. Inc. and BargainFlix.com.
