Office Depot’s web sales grew 27% in the first quarter

First-quarter global e-commerce sales at Office Depot Inc. increased 27% to $762 million from $600 million in the first quarter last year, the company reported today. Total sales for Q1 were up 18% to $3.6 billion from $3.05 billion.

 

First-quarter global e-commerce sales at Office Depot Inc. increased 27% to $762 million from $600 million in the first quarter last year, the company reported today. Total sales for Q1 were up 18% to $3.6 billion from $3.05 billion. The web accounted for 21% of all Office Depot sales in the first quarter compared to 19.7% a year ago. North American web-based sales were up 11%.

Comparable store sales worldwide were up 2%. Comparable store sales in North America were up 3%. It was the first time in four years that comparable store sales were up, the company said. By contrast, Office Depot’s web sales have increased tenfold since Q1 2001, when it reported online sales of $359 million.
