One way it expects to keep up the pace is through a new gift reminder service that automatically e-mails customers reminders about forthcoming special dates, like Mom’s birthday, and recommends a gift.
Omaha Steaks, which started the online gift reminder service earlier this month, offers special packages and prices to go along with its gift recommendations. “People have been responding, and the feedback is very positive,” a spokeswoman says.
The service, built in-house, is designed so that customers who place an order for a gift for a relative or friend are presented with an offer on the checkout page to sign up for gift reminders. “When you check out after ordering a gift for your mom’s birthday, we ask if you want a reminder when her birthday nears the following year,” she says.
Omaha may eventually expand the service to include a gift registry, enabling customers to enter information for a list of friends and relatives for inclusion in the automated e-mail reminder service.
