Web sales growth outpace total sales growth at Sportsman’s Guide

Internet sales at The Sportsman`s Guide were up 53% in 2001 while total sales were up 10%. The web represented 21% of all sales in 2001, up from 15% the year before.

 

Internet sales at South St. Paul, MN-based The Sportsman`s Guide Inc. were up 53% in 2001 while total sales were up 10%, the company reported today. The web represented 21% of all sales in 2001, up from 15% the year before. Web sales totaled $35.6 million of The Sportsman’s Guide’s $169.7 million in 2001 sales vs. $23.3 million of the company’s $154.9 million in 2000.

In the fourth quarter, the web site was responsible for 23% of all sales up from 18% in Q4 2000. Q4 total sales were $62.5 million ($14.4 million via the web) vs. $59 million ($10.6 million via the web) in Q4 2000.

The Sportsman`s Guide sells value-priced outdoor gear and general merchandise, with an emphasis on outdoor clothing, equipment and footwear, through sportsmansguide.com and bargainoutfitters.com as well as catalogs. The company closed its retail store in 2000.
