Groupon says its focus is on the bottom line, rather than top-line growth.
Online retail community builder uMember.com Inc. has launched an Internet portal for USA Federal Credit Union, a 50,000-member financial institution in San Diego. uMember.com's "business to business to consumer" strategy is to create for financial services provider clients a "one-stop, online mega-store" that offers a variety of brand-name merchandise and services. Available merchandise includes computers and software, consumer electronics, gifts, jewelry and watches, apparel and accessories, golf and sporting goods, flowers, automotive products, garden supply, home improvement items and lodging. Future categories are expected to include supermarket and household items, pharmaceuticals and insurance services, says the Los Angeles-based company. The site also will feature links to news, business, entertainment, sports, health, horoscope, weather, trivia and game Web sites. Member services include chat rooms, auctions, classified ads and bulletin boards.
