ATG Recommendations Enhanced to Support New Channels and Greater Merchant Control

New version automates and personalizes the cross-channel product discovery experience to drive revenue and loyalty

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--May. 11, 2009-- ATG (Art Technology Group, Inc., NASDAQ: ARTG), the premier provider of e-commerce solutions, today announced its Spring 2009 release of ATG Recommendations, an automated, personalized merchandising service that helps online merchants lift revenue quickly and easily by predicting each shopper’s intent and recommending the most relevant products from the site’s catalog. New capabilities include email recommendations, enhanced merchant control over recommendations, and cross-channel and rich media support. ATG Recommendations is part of ATG’s line of eCommerce Optimization Services which help lift online revenue quickly, easily and measurably by optimizing each and every Web interaction.

Identified recently by Forrester Research1 as a “Quick Win” e-commerce technology investment, product recommendations delivered as software-as-a-service help online retailers lift revenue with no up-front fee and no significant changes to their online stores. With the new capabilities introduced today, ATG Recommendations gives online merchants a powerful solution to automate, personalize, and control merchandising across channels and build engaging and rich personalized shopping experiences. Shoppers who interact with ATG Recommendations convert up to 200% more and have order values up to 30% higher than customers’ average online rates.

Unlike other recommendations providers, ATG delivers automated recommendations as part of a complete, personalized multi-channel commerce and optimization solution. Companies across a variety of industries have incorporated ATG Recommendations into their Web and cross-channel selling initiatives, including internationally-recognized retail brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, The Body Shop, and J.Jill.

Specific highlights of the Spring 2009 release of ATG Recommendations include:

  • Personalized e-Mail Recommendations. ATG Recommendations uses predictive relevancy to determine the probable “next purchase” for each customer, and delivers recommendations directly to customer e-mails as they are opened. ATG Recommendations works with any e-mail provider and can support all types of e-mail campaigns including order and shipment confirmation, abandoned carts, loyalty marketing, registration, and customer acquisition.
  • Enhanced Merchandiser Control. ATG Recommendations blends its intelligent automation and personalization with merchandiser control via recommendations “campaigns,” which allow online merchants to align recommendations with their strategy and rules. Featuring 20 new campaigns, the Spring 2009 release now lets merchants control recommended products by brand, category, popularity (top sellers), price, product newness, product collection, product cross-sells (related products) and product up-sells (more expensive products). Retailer-specific campaigns can be created based on product catalog data, such as promotional or inventory status, and visitor context, such as customer status or cart value. When hard inclusions or exclusions are required, merchants can also mix manual and automated recommendations. Recommendations campaigns can be leveraged on the Web store and in other channels including e-mail.
  • Cross-Channel Support. Online retailers can now include ATG Recommendations when building cross-channel shopping applications such as mobile stores, iPhone apps, social media widgets, and in-store kiosks. Retailers can also integrate ATG Recommendations with their CRM solutions to show recommendations to contact center agents so they can up-sell and cross-sell based on each shopper’s intent. ATG’s live help services – eStara Click to Call and eStara Click to Chat – can be used in concert with ATG Recommendations to promote suggestions to Web visitors in real-time.
  • Rich Media Support. ATG Recommendations is the only recommendations service with native support for building rich media shopping applications with Adobe Flash® and Adobe Flex®. Online retailers can now create rich, personalized shopping experiences that allow shoppers to engage with and discover products in new ways.

“Retailers understand the value of adding automated cross-sells to their online strategy, yet face a difficult decision in terms of vendor selection among a crowded field,” said Nina McIntyre, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, ATG. “Our customers rely on ATG Recommendations to automate and personalize online merchandising across their site and across channels by utilizing its deep catalog understanding and merchandiser control. ATG Recommendations stands out from the pack because it goes beyond simple cross-sell automation. It gives merchandisers the ability to retain full control of certain merchandising elements including cross sells, while automating areas that require less control. The end result is a more manageable, accurate, and profit-driven recommendation system.”

Available immediately as part of ATG’s line of e-Commerce Optimization Services, ATG Recommendations is an on demand (SaaS) service that can be deployed easily and rapidly to any Web site, regardless of which e-commerce platform powers the site. Pricing is available by contacting ATG sales.
