Lands’ End opens a new online store for Canada

Borderfree is providing the Sears subsidiary with Canadian pricing and fulfillment services.

With its eye on growth in online sales, Lands’ End has launched a new e-commerce site in Canada, where online shoppers who log onto LandsEnd.com will automatically see pricing in Canadian dollars along with the full cost of shipping. Canadian shoppers also get free shipping on orders of $50 or more.

“We are dedicated to focusing our efforts on an enhanced e-commerce presence in Canada that not only offers an online shopping experience that is true to the Lands’ End brand, but is also tailored to the specific needs of Canadian shoppers,”  says Cart Atwell, managing director of the retailer’s Canada, Lands’ End, division.

Lands’ End, a Dodgeville, WI-based unit of Sears Holdings Corp., has retained e-commerce technology and services company Borderfree to provide product pricing in Canadian dollars and cross-border shipping services. Geo-targeting technology built into LandsEnd.com automatically renders the local currency and shipping fees for an online shopper based on her IP address.

Prior to the arrangement with Borderfree, Canadian shoppers on LandsEnd.com viewed all pricing in U.S. dollars and received a bill for cross-border shipping duties and taxes after completing the purchase. “This enhanced functionality is a big step for us as we continue to grow our business globally and introduce new customers to the Lands’ End brand,” says Bry Roskoz, senior vice president of international at Lands’ End.

Lands’ End has also expanded its online operations in Europe in recent years, developing separate e-commerce sites in Germany  and other markets.

E-commerce sales in Canada will grow at least 10% annually over the next five years, topping C$33.8 billion ($32.8 billion) in 2018, up from the C$20.6 billion ($20 billion) this year, according to a forecast from Forrester Research Inc.. Online sales as a proportion of total Canadian retail sales will grow to 10% in 2018 from 7% this year.

Borderfree was formerly known as FiftyOne Global Ecommerce, which acquired the former Borderfree last year and kept its name.

Sears Holdings is No. 6 in the Internet Retailer 2013 Top 500 Guide. Sears Holdings owns a majority share of Sears Canada Inc., which operates Sears.ca. Sears.ca doesn’t sell Lands’ End brands, according to search today on its web site.
