In July, 9.4% of total web sales stemming from traffic driven by U.K. affiliate network Affiliate Window to 1,600 retailers, travel companies and other organizations came from consumers on mobile devices. That’s up from 4.5% in July 2011.
What’s more, mobile shoppers converted in July 2012 at a rate of 3.14%, up from 2.99% in July 2011, Affiliate Window says.
The figures represent all transactions conducted on smartphones and tablets, whether the consumer was shopping on a mobile commerce web site or a conventional e-commerce site.
There was a significant jump in mobile traffic in July. 9.4% of all traffic flowing through the affiliate network to the 1,600 sites was mobile, up from just 3.0% in July 2011.
In terms of traffic, the iPad edged out the iPhone as king of the hill. During the last week of July, 40.1% of mobile traffic came from iPads, 36.1% from iPhones, 19.0% from Android devices, 1.8% from BlackBerrys and 2.9% from other mobile devices, Affiliate Window reports. The total does not add up to 100% due to rounding.
When it comes to sales, the iPad dominated. During the last week of July, 59.2% of mobile sales were conducted on iPads, 24.0% on iPhones, 12.3% on Android devices, 2.4% on BlackBerrys and 2.0% on other mobile devices. The total does not add up to 100% due to rounding.
