Comparison shopping engine Nextag Inc. has bought Thingbuzz, which operates an e-commerce site that features products deemed popular based on the chatter they attract on Twitter, Facebook and other social networks. Nextag did not say how much it paid for the California-based firm.

"Our acquisition of Thingbuzz is the first step in delivering our customers a fully integrated and rewarding social shopping experience," says Jeffrey Katz, CEO of Nextag. "We're so pleased to welcome the Thingbuzz team to Nextag and provide our shoppers with even more personalized search results for unlocking the best deals on the web."

Nextag says the acquisition will enable it to show consumers what other shoppers are saying about products via Twitter and Facebook, and to send timely product information and promotions.

Including Thingbuzz, Nextag has bought four companies this year.

In April, Nextag announced the acquisition of Guenstiger.de GmbH, a Germany-based provider of online comparison shopping services.  Nextag also bought product reviews and recommendations provider Wize Inc. and online coupon firm NextCoupons.com.
