eDiets.com appoints a Nutrisystem veteran to oversee call centers

Robert Smedley managed a 400-agent call center for Nutrisystem.

EDiets.com Inc. said today it has hired Robert Smedley as senior vice president of sales and member services. In his new job he is responsible for building the online retailer’s customer base, managing its call centers, and otherwise boosting customer service.

EDiets.com is No. 371 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

Smedley previously worked at online retailer Nutrisystem Inc., No. 63 in the Top 500 Guide, from 2000 to 2008, He was vice president of sales and counseling, and managed a 400-employee call center, eDiets says.

"His extensive experience building and leading call center operations will play a significant role in shaping the next phase at eDiets.com. Earlier this month, eDiets.com reported that sales grew 9.3% to $5.9 million in the second quarter from $5.4 million in the same period last year.
