AT&T to offer retailer clients mobile commerce via a new partner, Digby

The carrier will meld mobile apps and sites from Digby with its bar code services.

Wireless carrier AT&T has launched Digby Mobile Commerce from AT&T, a service to help retailers create m-commerce sites and apps.

AT&T, which already offers retailers mobile bar code and text message services that enable merchants to send registered users messages promotions and discounts, says adding mobile commerce services from Digby will help retailers make it easy for consumers to search, browse and buy products on their mobile phones.

AT&T says it also will integrate Digby Mobile Commerce with its AT&T Mobile Barcode Services, enabling retailers to provide information, pictures of products and rich media via the Digby platform when customers scan bar codes via an app or site in stores.

Digby Mobile Commerce from AT&T offers m-commerce sites that can display rich product images and complete product catalogs. Retailers using the Digby service from AT&T can also create apps targeted at loyal shoppers who can connect regularly via smartphone to shop and make purchases. Merchants will also be able to use the GPS capabilities in a smartphone to send promotions and product information to app users when they walk into stores, AT&T says.

Digby Mobile Commerce from AT&T is Payment Card Industry (PCI) Level 1 certified, which means it’s approved for use by the largest merchants who face the strictest requirements under the the PCI data security standard. The PCI Council, which was founded by payment card companies Visa Inc., MasterCard Worldwide Inc., American Express Co., Discover Financial Services and JCB International, manages the standards for protecting electronic payment card account data.

More than 45 retailers, including Cabela’s, Petco and The Home Depot, use Digby mobile commerce services, the company says.
