Members-only luxury sale site Gilt Groupe is expanding into home goods, the retailer announced yesterday. Gilt Home will offer 15 sales per week from more than 200 brands that sell products such as outdoor furniture, rugs and bedding.

Members-only luxury sale site Gilt Groupe is expanding into home goods, the retailer announced yesterday. Gilt Home will offer 15 sales per week from more than 200 brands that sell outdoor furniture, rugs, lighting decorative accessories, bedding, gourmet food, art, housewares and electronics.
As part of its venture into new product lines, the Glit blog will now also feature editorial content about its Gilt Home products and interviews with home and product designers, Gilt says.
"Our member is a sophisticated individual who looks for luxury in every aspect of his or her life, including their home," says Stefan Pepe, general manager of Gilt Home. "What we are doing now is offering that member a curated selection of products in a wide variety of categories for the home each day. Our goal is to give our members stylish products that can be used to furnish every room."
Gilt Home brands will include Cuisinart, Kyocera and Voluspa candles. All Gilt Home sales will begin at noon Eastern time and will last 48 to 72 hours. Items will be available at up to 70% off retail, Gilt says.
Gilt has been busy as of late. It was one of the first out of the gate to launch a shopping app for Apple Inc.’s new iPad, introducing the app in April. And it’s had a string of recent hires, including vice president of operations Christopher Halkyard and senior director of interaction design and usability Brian Kalma.
Launched in November 2007, Gilt Groupe is one of a growing number of private sale sites including Rue La La and Ideeli. Gilt, which says it says it has more than 2 million members, posted 2009 web sales of $97 million according to Internet Retailer estimates compared with an estimated $58 million for 2008.
