Mark Anthony has joined Camelot Venture Group as senior vice president and general merchandise manager, and will oversee e-commerce and catalog merchandising for SharperImage.com. Camelot operates the Sharper Image e-commerce site, which the company relaunched last fall after the multichannel gadget retailer went bankrupt in 2008, closing its web site and 200 stores.
Anthony had been operational vice president and general merchandise manager at Brookstone Inc., a multichannel gifts and home furnishings retailer where Anthony worked for 12 years. Brookstone is No. 154 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide (a PDF version of the company’s financial and operating profile can be ordered by clicking on its name.)
Anthony will be responsible for developing, sourcing and merchandising products. Camelot re-launched SharperImage.com Oct. 1, and plans to mail a catalog in time for Father’s Day, the company says.
“We’re thrilled that Mark decided to join us and head up our merchandising team,” says David Katzman, Camelot Venture Group managing partner. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and 23 plus years of experience in merchandising specialty retail on both the online and catalog sides of the business.”
Camelot Venture Group is a private investment group that invests primarily in direct-to-consumer companies including online, catalog, retail, technology, financial services and sports management. Sharper Image is owned by a joint venture of Bluestar Alliance, Hilco consumer Capital and Gordon Brothers.
