The Internet delivered happy holiday sales greetings to Barnes & Noble Inc.

For the nine-week holiday sales period from Nov. 1. to Jan. 2, Barnes & Noble reported:

Orders for the retailer’s nook e-book reader were strong throughout the holiday season and grew despite the company announcing in late December it had sold out the initial supply, says Steve Riggio, CEO of Barnes & Noble, No. 41 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide (a PDF version of the company’s financial and operating profile can be ordered by clicking on its name). Demand continues to outrun supply, he says, but the book retailer expects to catch up in the next few months. Barnes & Noble did not break out nook sales.
