August sales at online hardware and home improvements retailer DrillSpot.com grew 54% over August a year ago, the company reports, to $931,000 from $605,000.

Founder and CEO Paul Lin credits the sales increase to a redesign of the web site. In August, the company streamlined its checkout process, which reduced the number of checkout-related customer service calls by 60%.

The company also restructured its contact page, which reduced incoming spam e-mail by 90%. That allowed customer service reps to respond to customer inquiries in a more timely fashion.

DrillSpot.com sells more than 360,000 home improvement and industrial supply products.
