Decision Aimed at Improving Communications to Military Service Members Worldwide
INDIANAPOLIS (March 27, 2009) – ExactTarget, a leading provider of on-demand email and one-to-one marketing solutions, announced today that the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) has selected the company to power the email marketing campaigns for all Navy Exchange retail stores worldwide.
NEXCOM, which operates more than 100 Navy Exchanges on Navy bases around the globe, chose to replace its existing home-grown database email marketing system with ExactTarget’s Enterprise Edition software following an evaluation of multiple email service providers.
“The marketing system we developed allowed us to reach our customers, but it didn’t allow us to provide the personalized service our customers and their families deserve,” said Michael Conner, Vice President Marketing for NEXCOM. “We are looking to ExactTarget to bring us the ability to manage customer accounts and preferences, send automated purchase confirmation emails and deliver a visually appealing email.”
The two organizations are currently working to transfer subscriber lists into ExactTarget’s enterprise software and plan to begin sending email marketing messages such as product news, personalized email offers and customer communications in April. The move to ExactTarget will also allow the Command’s subscribers to choose how often they want to receive information.
“Millions of Sailors and Marines depend on the Navy Exchange to offer quality goods and services at a savings regardless of where they are stationed around the world,” said Scott Dorsey, chief executive officer of ExactTarget. “We are proud that the NEXCOM selected ExactTarget to power its email marketing efforts and look forward to delivering relevant messages to our men and women in uniform.”
NEXCOM joins the growing list of more than 7,000 organizations using ExactTarget around the globe. In 2008 alone, ExactTarget powered more than 13.5 billion permission-based emails through its on-demand platform that also allows marketers to communicate with customers via voice messaging and SMS text messaging.
The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is headquarters for the worldwide Navy Exchange System that oversees 105 Navy Exchange facilities and its 305 stores worldwide; 43 Navy Lodges; Ship’s Stores; Uniform Program Management Office and Navy Family Support Programs. NEXCOM’s mission is to provide authorized customers quality goods and services at a savings and to support quality of life programs for active duty military, retirees, reservists and their families. The Navy Exchange enterprise operates primarily as a non-appropriated fund (NAF) business instrumentality. Revenues generated are used to support Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs. In FY07, $2.5 billion in sales were generated with nearly $34 million in profits provided to Navy MWR programs. For more information, visit www.navy-nex.com.
