ChannelAdvisor Corp., which helps retailers sell through a variety of online channels, has acquired RichFX, a provider of technology that lets users zoom in on images, see products from different angles and configure complex items. ChannelAdvisor says it plans to make that rich media technology available to smaller and mid-sized online retailers. The purchase price was not disclosed.
ChannelAdvisor says it will host a platform called myRichFX that will enable retailers to add rich media to their web sites, online catalogs and web-based versions of regional circulars.
ChannelAdvisor also plans to integrate its technology with that of RichFX and to market its services for search and product placement in comparison shopping engines and online marketplaces to RichFX’s customer base.
Founded in 1997, RichFX has over 200 retail clients, including Wal-Mart.com, which is No. 14 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, No. 67 Disney Shopping, No. 105 Lillian Vernon, No. 286 Brooks Brothers and No. 384 Men’s Wearhouse. Eoin Townsend, RichFX CEO, will join ChannelAdvisor as general manager and vice president of the RichFX business unit.
“We are constantly looking for ways to open up more multi-channel functionality to our customers to help them succeed,” says Scot Wingo, CEO of ChannelAdvisor. “With rich media’s ability to enhance web site interactivity and attract more conversions, RichFX appeared to be a natural extension of ChannelAdvisor Complete core capabilities.”
