World Wrestling Entertainment’s overall e-commerce businesses produced $8.1 million in sales for the first quarter of 2008, up by 16% year-over-year, however WWEShop.com sales decreased by 10%.

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc.’s e-commerce businesses recorded $8.1 million in sales for the first quarter of 2008, up by 16% year-over-year from $7 million. Merchandise sales at WWEShop.com, however, were down 10% from $4 million in Q1 2007 to $3.6 million in the first quarter ended March 31, 2008.
Revenue from the company’s Digital Media businesses includes WWE.com sales of $4.5 million, up by 61% compared with $2.8 million in the prior year quarter. WWE.com carries DVDs, TV event clips and other video products. The increase reflects $1.1 million of additional advertising related revenues and $400,000 in additional revenue from the company’s wireless content.
Sales at WWEShop.com, the company’s main e-commerce business, reflected an 18% decrease in the number of orders processed during the first quarter of 2008. The average amount spent per order was about $51, the company says, approximately 5% higher than the prior year quarter.
E-commerce accounted for about 5% of $162.6 million in total revenue for the quarter. Overall sales were up 51%, or $55.2 million, from $107.4 million in the prior year quarter. Net income was $19.5 million, a 29% increase from $15.1 million in Q1 2007.
