Starting today, customers of Collectible Concepts Group Inc. can buy the retailer’s household and collectible items by clicking the video screen on their Apple iPhones and iPods, the retailer says.
Collectible Concepts sells items like baseball bats, clocks and wooden cutting boards adorned with logos related to professional sports teams and branches of the U.S. military on the web at CollectibleConcepts.com and USAMilitaryMemories.com. Through an arrangement with Wi-FiTV, which operates a video download service at Wi-FiTV.com, Collectible Concepts is distributing promotional videos that consumers can download onto their iPhones or iPods through Apple Inc.’s iTunes service or Wi-FiTV.com. The videos also are intended to work through Apple TV, which lets consumers view Internet-downloaded video on their TV screens.
Clicking a video as it’s playing on an iPhone, iPod or AppleTV device takes a shopper to one of the retailer’s web sites for making an online purchase, says Jay Lipschutz, treasurer of Collectible Concepts.
Although it was too soon to say how consumers were responding to the retailer’s new shopping option, the retailer sees it as a way to connect with a young audience, president Paul Lipschutz says. “We are using the Wi-Fi TV platform to take Collectible Concepts to a demographic that is spending more time away from traditional TV and more time on the Internet-and now more time on devices like the iPhone,” he says. “Wi-Fi TV is helping to take Collectible Concepts where other branded products have not gone before.”
Collectible Concepts is also planning to conduct a live auction of sports collectibles through the Wi-Fi TV platform, Paul Lipschutz says.
Wi-FiTV.com offers consumers free memberships for live interactive TV and chat, phone, and video communication as part of its Social Internet TV platform, and Paul Lipschutz says he expects the site’s services to help Collectible Concepts build customer relationships.
Collectible Concepts also wholesales its products through supermarkets, sports stadiums, catalogs and other retail outlets.
