Somerfield selects Kronos for Retail to Optimise Workforce Management for more than 50,000 employees

Leading UK grocer will improve operations by matching staff schedules to customer demand across its 1,100 store chain

Date: 21st August 2006 - Somerfield has selected Kronos for Retail from Kronos Incorporated to optimise the deployment of 50,000 Colleagues across 1,100 Somerfield stores of all formats around the UK. The implementation of Kronos for Retail will enable an integrated approach to workforce management including budgeting, forecasting, scheduling and time and attendance. The advanced forecasting and scheduling capabilities of Kronos for Retail will enable Somerfield to manage employee schedules by accurately matching staffing requirements to customer demand. This will allow the retailer to increase productivity, and improve customer and employee satisfaction.

In the current competitive marketplace, retailers need to balance delivery of excellent customer service with firm budget control. Managers need simple, easy to use tools to improve productivity and to focus activities on delivery excellent customer service and to achieve this, Somerfield selected Kronos for Retail.

With Kronos for Retail, Somerfield will be able to create the optimal employee schedules based on store-specific data including historical business trends and customer traffic. These optimised schedules, based on Somerfield’s labour requirement in 15-minute intervals, will ensure the right employee is always in the right place at the right time, leading to excellent and consistent customer service across all stores. The system will integrate with Somerfield’s existing SAP HR and Payroll system and the project will be completed in all retail stores during 2007.
