L.L. Bean launches a Japanese web site

L.L. Bean, which already has retail and catalog operations in Japan, is launching a Japanese web site with yen-denominated prices and a name-pronunciation database for customer service reps.

L.L. Bean is launching a Japanese web site at LLBean.co.jp. Freeport, ME-based L.L. Bean already has retail and catalog operations in Japan. The site is built on the same IBM WebSphere Commerce infrastructure that supports L.L. Bean’s main site.

The Japanese operation will feature a pronunciation database to help customer service representatives properly pronounce customers’ names, an online payment system that supports Japanese currency and regional taxation rules and regulations, and an interface that allows third-party order fulfillment partners to process web orders.

"This is an exciting time for L.L. Bean as we expand our presence in Japan from retail and catalogs to the launch of the new web site," said Zane Shatzer, managing director, Japan Branch Office, L.L. Bean. "We`re happy to be working with IBM to ensure that all the great features of our U.S. Web site, including easy navigation, promotions and real-time order management, are available to make the online shopping experience enjoyable for our customers in Japan."
