Pantone Color Translator Speeds Color Coding

Internet Retailer

Converts PANTONE TEXTILE Colors to NRF Color Codes for Added Benefits

NEW YORK - January 14, 2002 - Today at the NRF 91st Annual Convention & Expo, Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the graphics, fashion, interior and industrial design industries, announced the PANTONE National Retail Federation (NRF) Color Translator, software that allows retailers toconvert PANTONE TEXTILE Color System® codes to NRF Color Codes.

The NRF Color Code System was created to provide a unique Color Code for each color offered by a retailer or manufacturer for database purposes and sales tracking. Although NRF Color Codes meet the objective of EDI compliance, they are subjectively assigned. Using PANTONE TEXTILE Color specifications allows the retailer or manufacturer to track performance of a real color, significantly increasing the value of the results. The PANTONE NRF Color Translator software finds NRF Color Codes for PANTONE TEXTILE Colors, as well as locates the range of PANTONE TEXTILE Colors for the NRF Color Codes. The PANTONE NRF Color Translator allows PANTONE TEXTILE Colorsto be integrated directly into retailers` inventory, tracking and EDI systems.

"We are proud and excited about the PANTONE NRF Color Translator and its Web-enabled functionality to quickly and easily help users identify color in an electronic, as well as physical, format," said Germaine Palangdao, director, IT programs, National Retail Federation. "Communicating color through user-friendly tools is critical for retail business partners to quickly distribute key product information."

Associated Merchandising Corporation, the sourcing and buying company for Target Inc., has been using the PANTONE NRF Color Translator for its apparel goods for two months. "We have found the Translator to be a great way to rapidly determine the NRF range of a color," said Linda Fahy, manager of Color Approval, AMC. "It`s a time saver that eliminates the need to pull the actual color standards from the PANTONE TEXTILE Color Swatch Files."
