Bellevue, WA. -August 8, 2001 - In a step toward advancing technology and affordable medication costs in U.S. healthcare, drugstore.com™, the nation`s leading online drugstore, is providing retail prescription drug price information to approximately 145,000 U.S. doctors and 140,000 medical students and other health care professionals via ePocrates, Inc., the leading provider of real-time medical information delivered to the point of care.

This information, which is updated monthly for ePocrates`qRx 4.0 handheld device users, includes prices for more than 10,000 prescription drugs.

"Helping consumers and health care providers make more appropriate and affordable prescription drug decisions is drugstore.com`s goal," said drugstore.com, inc. Chief Pharmacist, Andy Stergachis. "In the field of online health, we`re a technology leader and thrilled our price information is helping physicians and patients make informed choices."

By having price information at their fingertips, doctors also have the ability to search for an alternative drug, such as a lower cost alternative. Patients can now learn of a drug`s cost before arriving at the pharmacy counter, thereby increasing the likelihood the prescription will be picked up and taken according to instructions.

"By using drugstore.com`s pricing information, doctors can make more informed prescribing decisions, which will ultimately result in improved patient care," added ePocrates Vice President of Business Development, Dr. Richard Fiedotin.

According to a Harris Interactive poll, 20 percent of doctors have PDAs, or handheld personal assistants. In addition, a March 2001 American College of Cardiology survey found 57 percent of its members used handheld devices.
