Wall Street Takes a Second Look at E-Retailing

Safa Rashtchy, Managing Director, Senior Internet Analyst, Piper Jaffrey & Co.

In 2001, the Internet fell out of favor with Wall Street. Five years later, the Internet is back in favor and e-retailers as well as chains and catalogers with significant online sales are getting close scrutiny from Wall Street. This session will feature a Wall Street analyst who will dissect the public companies' financial reports and tell attendees what the numbers show about each company and about the e-retailing industry as a whole. Our speaker will discuss how online retailers and chains with significant web presences are faring on the Street compared to other companies, who the current Wall Street darlings are and why investors are so enamored of them. Our speaker will also appraise today's market for IPOs, help e-retailers to decide if they have what it takes to issue an IPO, and if so, assess the advantages and disadvantages of going public.
