Internet sales at Sharper Image Corp. in August fell 40% from August a year ago to $2.9 million from $4.8 million, the company reported today. The decline in online sales was even more severe than the decline in overall sales at Sharper Image, which has been in free fall for over two years. Total sales were down 34% to $21.9 million from $33.4 million.
Total store sales fell 17% to $16 million from $19.3 million while comparable store sales in August decreased 16%. Catalog sales/direct marketing sales (including wholesale) fell 67% to $3.1 million from $9.3 million a year earlier.
For the seven months year-to-date, Internet sales were down 39% from the same period a year ago to $22.7 million from $37.1 million. Total company sales were down 32% to $165.3 million from $241.5 million. Total store sales for the seven months were down 16% to $117.5 million from $140.7 million in the prior year, while comparable store sales decreased 16%. Catalog sales/direct marketing sales (including wholesale) were off by 61% to $25.1 million from $63.8 million.
