Peapod and sister supermarket chain deliver to Boston schools and offices.

Peapod LLC and Stop & Shop supermarkets, both owned by Royal Ahold of the Netherlands, have opened a facility near Boston dedicated to delivering groceries to area schools, businesses and nonprofit organizations.

“A growing trend in the workplace today is to provide convenient, nutritious food and beverages on-site for employees,” says Andrew Parkinson, president of Peapod, which is No. 43 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. “Peapod by Stop & Shop makes it easier for companies to do so by offering the convenience of online grocery shopping and delivery.”

Customers will be able to choose among more than 4,000 products, including fresh produce, snacks, beverages, cleaning supplies and office products. The facility will also cater such as items as deli platters, cheese trays and fruit trays. Deliveries will be made between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays to downtown Boston and several suburbs.
