Jolly good growth in UK demand for e-commerce technology
The demand for e-commerce technology in the UK will reach £400 million, or US$808 million, worth of products and services this year, according to research firm E-consultancy. The firm’s last survey in 2005 estimated the market demand at £268 million, or US$541 million.
The market demand will increase 22% this year after a 22% increase last year, according to the report “E-commerce Platforms: A Buyer’s Guide.” The estimate includes spending on packaged software, hosted e-commerce platforms and on-demand services.
Usability appears to be a key driver for new technology purchases by retailers, the report says. E-consultancy cites May 2007 research from consulting firm Bunnyfoot showing 72% of UK organizations planned to increase their usability budgets over the next 12 months, putting it at the top of spending priorities.
The report also quotes IMRG as saying that UK e-commerce will reach £42 billion (US$84.5 million) this year, up from £30.2 million (US$60.7 million) last year.
