National Consumers League Helps Consumers Go Online with Confidence
`Making the Connection: How to Go Online` Debuts at NCL`s `Protecting E-Consumers` Annual Conference
SAN DIEGO, April 27 -- The National Consumers
League (NCL) released a new brochure today to help consumers get online safely
and easily. The new brochure, "Making the Connection: How to Go Online"
offers quick, useful advice for consumers new to the online world. NCL
announce the new brochure and provided copies to consumer advocates,
businesses and government officials attending its annual conference,
"Protecting E-Consumers" in San Diego, CA.
"Making the Connection," explains in nontechnical terms how to get online,
how to choose an Internet service provider, and how to take advantage of what
the Internet offers safely. The brochure was developed with a grant from
America Online, a unit of AOL Time Warner Inc.
"Survey research indicates that many consumers are reluctant to go online
because of fears about safety and privacy, concerns about protecting their
children from materials inappropriate for their ages, and some general
technophobia," said Linda F. Golodner, NCL president. "The brochure addresses
these fears by demystifying the Internet and showing consumers practical ways
to protect themselves and their families online."
Kathy Bushkin, Senior Vice President of AOL Time Warner, said: "We have
long viewed the Internet as a unique medium that has the power to drastically
improve people`s lives on a large scale. But the first step to gaining the
benefits of the Internet revolution is overcoming obstacles to access and
inclusion for everyone. We salute the NCL for this brochure, which will make
the Internet less daunting and more available for those new to the
technology."
To obtain a copy of the brochure, consumers send $.50 to the Federal
Consumer Information Center, Pueblo, CO 81009; or call 888-8PUEBLO (888-878-
3256).
The National Consumers League, founded in 1899, is America`s pioneer
