Executive Team to Drive Growth Through Horizontal Organization Structure
SAN DIEGO, April 26, 2001 — HNC Software Inc. (Nasdaq: HNCS), a leading provider of Customer Insight solutions, announced today that it has appointed Mary Burnside to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Burnside, the former chief operating officer of Novell Inc., will be responsible for building a scalable infrastructure to support all internal and customer operations.
HNC also announced that Bruce Hansen has been promoted to president of HNC Software. Hansen previously served as president of the company’s financial solutions division, and will now assume the lead for sales, marketing, product management and development. Burnside and Hansen join CFO Ken Saunders and CEO John Mutch in a newly created senior executive team called the “Office of the President.”
HNC’s new horizontal organizational structure will position the company for its next growth phase by improving operational and financial efficiencies, and developing a product management infrastructure that will enable the rapid delivery of high-quality products to markets worldwide.

Burnside most recently served as president and COO of RealNames Corp., a global infrastructure provider of keywords. Prior to RealNames, she spent nine years at Novell, where she was responsible for approximately 4,000 employees in five central organizations including worldwide sales, service and support, manufacturing and distribution, corporate quality and several administrative functions including human resources.
Burnside holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She has been nationally recognized by Fortune for her accomplishments in the areas of financial and operations management.
