GuitarCenter.com amps up Q2 web sales
Though it doesn’t generate anywhere near the e-commerce revenue of its sister site, MusiciansFriend.com, GuitarCenter.com is beginning to register with shoppers.
The site, which Guitar Center Inc. opened in 2006 as a companion site to MusiciansFriend.com, No. 48 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, generated e-commerce revenue of $7.4 million in the second quarter and $15.6 million for the first six months of the year. In comparison, MusiciansFriend.com has annual e-commerce sales of about $252 million. Guitar Center doesn’t break out specific Musician`s Friend e-commerce numbers on a quarterly basis. For the second quarter, Guitar Center’s direct market sales grew by 28.1% to $110.6 million from $86.3 million from Q2 2006. Overall Guitar Center posted net income of $9.6 million on revenue of $518.9 million.
Guitar Center launched GuitarCenter.com as a part of an enhanced multi-channel sales initiative. Though GuitarCenter.com looks similar to and carries mostly the same merchandise as MusiciansFriend.com, Guitar Center launched the site to coincide with a planned buy-online-and-pickup-or-exchange-in-store program.
