Online retail sales the week ending Jan. 30 grew 33% to $1.45 billion from $1.09 billion in the corresponding week a year ago, comScore Networks Inc. reports.
Total retail sales were up 13.4% for the week ending Jan. 29, according to ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate. "It seems that gift card redemptions came on strong during the last week of January which helped drive customer traffic and spending for the month," said Michael Niemira, chief economist and director of research for the International Council of Shopping Centers. "Clearly, holiday-related shopping and spending did not end in December and is still positively impacting overall retail performance."
Online travel sales for the week ending Jan. 30 were up 10% from a year earlier, reaching $1.09 billion from $992 million, comScore reports.
