Web sales grow 28% at PetMed Express Inc.
A redesigned web site is helping PetMed Express Inc. expedite its e-commerce sales. The new site features an improved search engine which reduces the amount of clicks shoppers need to locate pet medications and other merchandise on 1800PetMeds.com and bigger images for the site’s roster of brands, which include pet health products, medications and other supplies. “The new design allows us more opportunity to market a broader range of pet health products,” says CEO Mendo Akdag.
The new web site and an increase in new customers are helping the web account for about 53% of all sales. Research analysts following PetMed expect web sales to reach $60 million for the company’s 2005 fiscal year which ends on March 31. That compares to web sales of about $47 million in 2003.
An average order at 1800PetMeds.com, which carries about 1,200 products both on the web and in its catalogs, is about $75.
